Question: Best Engine with high mpg for Ford Mustang Fastback?
I want to restore a 1964-1967 Ford Mustang (possibly a Fastback) and I want to know which engine is the best for it. I want high mpg because I will probably ride it almost everyday. And I still want good horsepower.

Answer: it's going to cost you, because newer in this case is better.
A stock 65 six stick would be lucky to get 26 mpg and not much power. the 289 about 19 mpg
A 87 GT 5.0 5 speed would get 27 mpg and have lots of power,
conclusion: put the 87 set up in a lighter 65 body and viola, 30 mpg! added plus, unreal acceleration!

Question: Production date of Ford mustang, what was mercurys response?
What was the beggining production date of the Ford mustang and what was Mercurys response?

Answer: The above date is right, however Ford owns Mercury and they share R&D labs and marketing. Mercury is Ford's Luxury division. Mercury and Ford do not compete whatsoever. Any "response" was just a relabeled, slightly more plush Mustang aka the Mercury Cougar. The real response was a few years later from Chevy when they introduced the Camaro.

Question: Where are spark plugs located on a 2000 ford mustang?
i am familiar with the process of changing spark plugs...i have done it in many cars. but ford mustang plugs look different. so i wanted to consult it here first before i go mess with it. its a v6 and it appears that the plugs are tightly packed on the right side of the engine (while facing it). so please all answers and comments are welcome but try to be specific...step by step guideline would be awesome....thank you for taking time to answer in advance.

Answer: that sounds like you are looking at the coil pack that is the new distributer for new cars now your plug wires connect to it follow them thay will go under the valve covers on both sides.under the valve cover is the heads that is where the spark plugs are

Question: I have a Straight-6 1980 Ford Mustang and was wondering what can I do to add more power and take off?
I have a Straight-6 1980 Ford Mustang and was wondering what can I do to add more power and take off like supercharges and tubrocharges or should I just put a v8 in it last option? Can anyone give me sites to look or advise, just looking for some advise because my car is slow 4 now.

Answer: The straight six in the early fox bodies is a dog. Your best bet is to swap in a 5.0L V8 or perhaps a 351. There are many parts available for both of those engines. You will need to change the crossmember though, in order to do the swap.

Definitely keep that 1980 though, its sweet that you're keeping one of the earliest Fox Mustangs on the road!

Question: Most HP for a 2000 Ford Mustang Modification?
I own a 2000 Ford Mustang. The engine is all stock. I would like some input in what I need to put into this car in detail to make it the baddest car in my town. Fastest off the start and as much horse as I can put into this stock engine. When its all said and done, I do not want to go over $5,000-$6,000. Am I better off in modifying this engine or do I need to look into a bigger, rebuilt engine to get what I am looking for? Please give me answers in detail in what I need and where I can find it for the best $.

Answer: If you want the baddest stang in town for 5-6K you'd better live in a real small town. No matter what you do, there is always someone faster. Rousch makes a supercharger, and NOS will boost the power. When you get all this power, better start thinking about getting it to the ground. So now you'd best beef up the rest of the drive line, then let's get to the brakes to stop this thing.

You can start with a crate engine, make sure the lower end can support all the horses. Use a forged crank, hipo rods and pistons. Like anything you have to start with a good foundation and build on top of it. Good luck

Question: How does the Ford Mustang v6 gas mileage compare with the v8?
I have never driven a Mustang before and I'm looking to buy one.
It seems like some of the people say that v8 is a gas guzzler and some say that they're actually about the same.
As for the actual price of the car, I don't care. I have found some better deals on the v8.
Any input will help. It would be nice if someone had the real... EPA estimated MPGs for both of them too.

Answer: On the hwy they are real close, but intown the v8's power is to tempting and you pay for it at the pump..

Question: 1991 Ford mustang starter bolt dimensions?
Does anyone know the size and thread count for the starter bolts on a 1991 ford mustang v8 with auto tranny. I have called the local auto stores and they dont carry these bolts. The associates were not even able to tell me the dimensions that I would need. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer: I can't remember if they are 3/8 or 7/16 inch thread, but they are coarse pitch. Two things I do know are:

1. Header bolts will work.
2. I found it works pretty good to intentionally strip the threads in the bell housing and use a longer bolt with a lock washer and nut, a nylon lock nut works best.

If this idea warrants a negative grade, what's your better idea!?! I thought so....

Question: How many miles will a Ford Mustang last?
I found a 2001 v6 with 70,000 miles for $5,000. I also found a 2000 v6 with 118,000 miles for $4,000.

About how many miles do Mustangs last in general? Should I even buy a used Mustang? Do they break down a lot?

Any sort of input on how long they last and when they start needing major repairs will help.

Answer: With Mustangs in the years that you are looking at, the V6's are notorious for having headgasket issues. If you are truly looking for longevity and want a Mustang - consider an 8cyl GT instead of the V6. I have seen 99-04 4.6 Liter Mustang GT's with well over 140,000 miles. I have seen the old 5.0 Liter Mustangs with even more miles. Try to stay away from the v6 mustangs 99-04.

Question: How to correctly warm up my 1966 Ford Mustang?
I own a 1966 Mustang 289 V8. I want to know what is the best method of warming up the car in the morning. I usually push the gas twice (quickly) and the car is loud and accelerated. I think that might be too much gas and it is wasting more gas than i really need to. also, how long do you keep it idle until it is ready to be driven, 1 or 2 or even 5 minutes, before the engine is warmed up?

Answer: Accelerated is good, shows that your choke is working.

You can adjust the Choke idle speed by the screw on the Carb that is associated with the choke cam. Screw it out a little bit to drop the RPM if you want. If it's too low of an RPM then it will stall when you put it in gear.

You can drive your car any time you want, you don't need to warm it up if it's in good condition. If it stalls when you put it in gear then you need to warm it up a few minutes.

Most people warm up their cars not because of the engine but it's SO cold they want the heater and defroster to be working when they hop in. There's nothing worse than driving in the cold with no heat.

Question: How do i disable or bypass the theft system on a 2000 Ford Mustang?
I purchased a remote starter kit / alarm and the remote start works, but the new keyfob that came with the new remote start kit will not unlock and lock the doors or open the trunk. The original ford Keyfob still does these operations. I want to disable the ford factory system so that my new remote start / alarm kit will unlock, lock, and pop the trunk on the car. Please help!

Answer: i had a 99 mustang gt, i had it done on mine they had to cut the factory wires for the door locks and the trunk . unless you have experience with the mustang wiring i would not mess with. much less of a headach in the long run. take it to a pro shop.

Question: How do I change the battery in my Ford Mustang 2004 Mach 1?
I have a 2004 mustang mach 1 and I'm trying to change the battery. I've never worked on cars that much, but I know how to do basic maintenance. I unscrewed the bolts to the electrical leads on the top of the positive and negative switches on the battery and took them off. I can't seem to find what is holding the battery down. I looked around and I don't see any bolts securing the battery, but I know there has to be something. How do I get the battery out? Does anyone know?

Answer: at the bottom of the battery there's should be a hold down clamp on it,if it doesn't have one on the top of it ,its on the bottom ,remove it and the battery will come out, good luck on it.

Question: What is the best clutch to use on my 2000 Ford Mustang GT which will soon be Supercharged??
The car is a 2000 Mustang GT 4.6 5-Speed which will soon have a Modular Powerhouse Vortec SuperCharger kit. Needs a new clutch so i might as well get one that can handle the power that is soon to come.

Answer: Centerforce is the best to use. it has a normal pedal feel but more clamping force than a heavy duty clutch due to weights that are added to the pressure plate that increase clamping force as the pressure plate spins faster due to centrifugal force.
it's also easier on the clutch cable and clutch quadrant (self adjuster).
